A New Portfolio Approach to ILM Qualifications

Return to Blog

ILM City and Guilds has reimagined its leadership and management qualifications at levels 2–5 and Focal Point are delighted to be able to offer this new portfolio approach.

The emphasis is now on portfolio-based assessments rather than purely traditional written assessment methods, which means that qualifications will be

  • much more suited for agile working
  • more inclusive
  • more flexible for learners
  • tailored for real world results

The main difference is the sources of evidence leaners can now draw on for assessment – with focus on providing high-quality, relevant evidence, which will naturally occur in the workplace.  For example:

  • Performance reviews
  • Project plans and documentation
  • Reports
  • Minutes of meetings
  • Demonstrations
  • Presentations
  • Research projects
  • Reflective Accounts / Logs / Journals
  • Audio/Video Files

This increased flexibility makes so much sense, as it helps learners with the practical application of their skills and actively supports diverse learning styles and learning needs in a variety of different work environments.

Focal Point have been an ILM approved centre for over 15 years, so we will continue to give you peace of mind that we offer a reputation for reliability and credibility when developing your leaders and managers.

But don’t take our word for it – here is what a commissioning manager and a participant on previous programmes have said:

“I am delighted with my return on investment. As soon as the Programme started I could see people were working better together. I can give a number of examples where the increased collaboration across the Department has led to significantly better outcomes. I am already looking forward to the next Programme.”

– Chief Officer and Commissioning Manager

“The Leadership Development Programme is excellent.  The ability to shape the learning via peer led sessions is innovative and engaging.  I’ve found the opportunity to interact with colleagues across the department both stimulating and exciting, it’s fascinating to discuss issues common to us all and determine new and often radical approaches to take matters forward”.
