Preventing Sexual Harassment – Stats One Year On from the WPA

Return to Blog
An obviously uncomfortable young male professional feeling victimised by his female coworkers leers and comments.

Since the Worker Protection Act legislation came in last October…

  • The first case has been heard at tribunal and the organisation fined £30k for failing to take preventative measures
  • Harriet Harman’s independent review of bullying and harassment at the Bar has found “a persistent problem with bullying, harassment and sexual harassment at the Bar” with 44% of respondents saying  they had experienced or observed bullying, harassment or discrimination while working either in person or online over the last two years – this is up from 38% in 2021

And yet according to recent research by WorkNest:

  • 4 in 10 businesses have not conducted a sexual harassment risk assessment
  • Only 45 % of businesses have provided sexual harassment training for all staff and managers
  • 34 % have provided no training at all since the new duty came into effect

The headlines keep coming and evidence keeps mounting that organisations are simply not doing enough to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.
